1 cushion system
ONE CUSHION SYSTEM
Concerning one cushion shots in the width of the table, we would like to know where is going our ball.
We can aim 1/2 ball of the payed ball with a high attack on the player's ball.
Take this example where player's and played ball form an angle of 45° with the higher cushion.
If we play 1/2 ball, without english, our ball comes back perpendicularly to the big cushions.
Thanks to Patrick DUPONT ( french master player ) for this system that don't need more than counting as far as 4
This system indicates before playing where our ball will come after bouncing on a cushion.
It is particulery interessant when player's and played ball form an angle different of 45° with the higher cushion.
This system indicates the quantity of english to modify the impact upon the lower cushion.
EXPLANATIONS WITHOUT ENGLISH
Draw a virtual line crossing by the centers of player's and played ball
This line cut the lower cushion at a point A and the higher at a point B
Imagine the player's ball exactly at the moment of its impact with the played ball
Draw a line perpendicularly to the big cushions crossing by the center of this virtual ball
This line cut these cushions at a point C
This point C is now our reference point.
We are searching the point D ( impact upon the lower cushion after one cushion )
How can we feel the position of this point D ?
The CD distance can be evaluated in marks ( one mark = distance between two diamonds engraved all around the table).
The arrival point D on the lower cushion is obtained with the formula :
CD = 4 - AB
EXAMPLES WITHOUT ENGLISH
- AB = 4 marks
Here, the point C and are at the same place because CD = 4 - 4 = 0
We play 1/2 ball without lateral effect in order to go come back perpendicularly to the big cushions
- AB = 3 marks
CD = 4 - AB = 4 - 3 = 1 mark
The arrival point D on the lower cushion will be situated 1 mark on the left of the point C
- AB = 2 marks
CD = 4 - AB = 4 - 2 = 2 marks
The arrival point D on the lower cushion will be situated 2 mark + 2 balls on the left of the point C
- AB = 1 mark
CD = 4 - AB = 4 - 1 = 3 mark
The arrival point D on the lower cushion will be situated 3 mark + 3 balls on the left of the point C
IMPACT OF ENGLISH
We can put english to influence the ball's way and so modify its arrival on the lower cushion
Each time we add one amount of english the result is one mark more.
Without english
AB + CD = 4
English : 1 amount
AB + CD = 5
arrival : 1 more mark on the left
English : 2 amount
AB + CD = 6
arrival : 2 more mark on the left
EXTENSION AND LIMITS OF THE SYSTEM
If the played ball is near from the higher cushion, we must attack lower to avoid the curve.
If the played ball and the player's ball are closed, the total deviation will be more important.
